Life with kids in Sydney City
I love the buzz about this place, the super tasty food, all the interesting fruits and veg on display and bringing kids is hassle free.
Weekday bookings only (for parties of 5 or more)Takeaway lunch orders by 10am by email or phoneCatering available upon request
There is street parking but it can be difficult to find a spot so try the carpark across the road at Dan O' Brien's as they have free ;2 hour parking. The is a change table in the disabled toilet on the ground floor and 4 highchairs.
Located at the back of the converted warehouse (pass Campus) this whole foods canteen has a cheerful decor of pinks, peaches and exposed red brick with fruit and veg adding splashes of colour. It has a waitress service and there are lots of communal tables as you enter and smaller booth (for parties of 3 or more) at the back.
I visited with my 9 month old for lunch and arrived just before 12pm just as it was getting very busy. It’s obviously very popular with mums as all 4 highchairs were in use, I hadn’t expected that and my heart fell. Anyone with a baby knows it’s pretty hard to eat lunch with no pram or highchair but I had waited so long to go there I decided to have a coffee and wait a little longer. The waitress was lovely and said she would let me know as soon as one became available. The lunch menu is broken into salad plates, daily plates, circus soups, sandwich boxes and sides. I ordered a sandwich box - meredith goats chevre with basil oil avocado and tomato. When it arrived it looked amazing and my mouth watered as I stared at it longingly until a waitress informed me I would have a highchair in a few minutes. I had been getting worried as another 3 women had arrived with babies in the meantime. Once I had the highchair I was able to tuck in. It was basically the best, most unusual sandwich I have ever had. All the ingredients came together in one section with sourdough bread on the side and you make up the sandwich yourself. Every bite was totally different and the toasted macadamia nuts were a perfect surprise addition.
There are kids options on the brekkie menu (fruit juice sweetened cornflakes or kids toast w/jam or vegemite - $5) but I’m not sure what little kids can eat from the lunch menu. I guess if mine was old enough I would have shared my food with him.
I love this place and will definitely go back with bub but not at lunch times!
