Life with kids in Sydney City
Where do I start! I love this place; the chilled atmosphere, friendly staff, funky decor, and yummy food. Great choice for a mothers group or family gathering or even just a take away coffee.
This little gem is so deceiving with its narrow frontage; it has tons of space with 3 separate seating areas. The coffee and take away and a little seating nook are at the front where they also sell beautiful greeting cards. Past the enormous graffiti art you will find another lovely seating section by the kitchen. We sat here because I fell in love with the gorgeous vintage table and hide rug and little Lochlann spotted the toaster lamp! If you follow the corridor through the atrium stocked with great vintage ornaments it opens up to a huge area with great big wooden tables, funky mismatched chairs and colourful artwork.
They have an ;extensive plant collection which is looked after by Annandale Garden Centre.
I love cafes that are a little unique and have a personality and Black Toast has lots of character.
On a normal day I think I would have chosen one of the specials like Corn Fritters, Ricotta Hot cakes, The Birdie Breakfast or The Mighty Quinn trout salad. On this particular day we had just taken our 10 month old for his first swim in Victoria Park Pool and the weather was more than a little chilly. I felt I needed the calories and I ordered the French Toast with Bacon, Caramelised Banana and Maple Syrup! It was divine but I would never have been able to finish it. I also enjoyed the coffee, a campus blend. My hubby had the Club Sandwich and was chuffed with it. There are also lots of gorgeous sweet treats.
Our waitress was lovely and friendly and offered a high chair straight away and heated our baby food. There is no specific kids menu but there are a few reasonably priced options that would suit on the menu e.g. toasties. There is plenty of room for prams and you can bring them all the way through to the big room at the back. There are 4 small steps in the middle of the cafe but if you can’t manage them just ask the staff for some help. There is no change table as such but there is a suitable surface in the toilet you can use (no space for prams).
They have a large function area downstairs suitable for corporate and private functions, art exhibitions and book or product launches. I hear on the grapevine that the guys at Black Toast will be organising lot of great events for parents in the summer.
There is street parking on Booth Street or on the side street - Nelson Street.
